Galaxy SmartTag 3 compatibility: Samsung phones first, iPhones limited

The Galaxy SmartTag 3 is primarily compatible with Samsung Galaxy phones; it also offers limited support for iPhones, but it does not work with non‑Samsung Android devices.

Galaxy SmartTag 3 compatibility details

Like its predecessors, the Galaxy SmartTag 3 pairs only with Samsung Galaxy devices for Android. Unlike the previous two trackers, it also works with iPhones to a limited degree. Several features are unavailable on iOS: Compass View, Ring Phone, and Left Behind Alert. Compatibility with non‑Samsung Android phones is missing. Even Google Pixel phones are not supported.

Feature limits and device requirements

There is a feature disparity across Galaxy phones, notably for the upgraded Compass View directional tracking mode. The Compass View offers directional tracking from up to 60 meters, but that extended range requires Galaxy devices with Bluetooth Channel Sounding. As of this writing, only four models meet that requirement: the Galaxy S26+, Galaxy S26 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

All things considered, the Galaxy SmartTag 3 remains best suited to Galaxy phone users first and foremost, with iPhone users in second place. Owners of other Android phone brands may want to avoid the Galaxy SmartTag 3 or hope for a third‑party software implementation.
